  • Why take part in preventive health screenings?

Preventive health testing is a simple, affordable and effective way to identify potential disease risk that might otherwise not be detected at your yearly physical. More often than not, getting a health screening is the first step in early intervention to prevent potentially harmful health problems later in life. Preventive health screenings enable the individual to understand their risks so that they can consult with their physician and take the road towards a healthier future.

  • Are the health screenings offered by HealthFair accurate and equivalent to those given by my physician?

Health screenings are completed using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, and are performed by highly skilled sonographers and medical technicians who have all completed formal health training and clinical rotations. Board certified physicians review all health testing results.

It is important to note, that while screenings use the same technology that would be seen in a hospital or physician’s office, these are limited protocol ultrasound studies. They are not full diagnostic exams. Screenings are designed to look for the most common abnormalities and identify if further diagnostic testing may be needed.

  • Why can’t my physician do these health screenings as part of my routine physical?

Due to the high cost of these tests, physicians typically only order health screening tests when a patient is showing apparent symptoms. Since most diseases are often symptomless, many times it’s too late for prevention once the symptoms appear.

  • How can HealthFair offer top-quality health screenings at such low prices?

HealthFair serves a high volume of patients in a mobile setting with minimal overhead costs.   Our streamlined process eliminates many of the ancillary expenses that drive up the price of healthcare.  By increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs, HealthFair is able to offer top-quality health screenings that are affordable for nearly everyone.

  • Where does HealthFair conduct the health screenings?

HealthFair health screenings are conducted primarily on board our state-of-the-art mobile health screening units.  Our mobile health testing units are designed with two examination rooms and a waiting room, offering patients a comfortable, private and professional atmosphere similar to what you would find in a traditional physician’s office.  HealthFair also converts indoor locations—such as places of worship, senior centers, civic buildings, community centers, and corporate offices—in to temporary health screening centers complete with fully enclosed private rooms.

  • Does Medicare or health insurance cover preventive health screenings?

Health insurance coverage varies from policy to policy. Upon request, HealthFair will provide you with a detailed, itemized receipt that can be submitted to your health insurance company to determine coverage and potential reimbursement.

  • How often should I have these health screenings?

Our physicians recommend health testing yearly because abnormal health conditions can newly develop, become manifest or intensify within a period of one year or less. Yearly health screenings will also complement your regular physicals. It is important to take into account your health risk factors and previous health screening results.

  • How long do the health screenings take?

A complete health screening package (6 health screenings) typically takes less than one hour to complete, depending on the level of disease, vascular anatomy and body type.

  • I work during the day. Can I schedule a health screening later in the day?

HealthFair’s goal is to make our health screenings available to everyone. We try to accommodate people’s schedules with health testing appointment times early in the day, during lunch or early evening. We offer health screenings on Saturdays as well.

  • When will I receive my health screening results?

You will receive your health testing results approximately 7-10 business days from the date of your health screening. As part of our strict quality control, all health screening results are read by our board certified medical physicians. If we find a health condition that is deemed critical, we will notify you on the day of your health assessment and your results will be expedited.

  • How will I receive my health screening results?

You will receive your results either online or through the mail approximately 7-10 days after your appointment. If a critical abnormality is detected the customer will be notified immediately. Call HealthFair’s Records Department at 866-371-3703 if you have any questions.

In addition to your written report, HealthFair offers the option of viewing images of your ultrasound screening results online. These images will include the “Heart in Motion” video of your echocardiogram showing the walls, chambers, valves and blood flow, as well as digital images of your carotid arteries and your aorta. The images can be shared with your physician and added to your permanent health record for future comparison. Most physicians like having the actual images to confirm the results for themselves.

  • Who reads my health screening results?

All health screening results are read by our highly experienced board certified medical physicians.

  • When should I be screened?

Generally, HealthFair recommends health screenings starting at age 40; however, this really depends on different risk factors, such as diabetes, family history of heart disease, stroke, or other diseases. If you reflect multiple risk factors, we highly recommend starting heath testing at an earlier age.

  • Will I receive the results of my health screenings or will they be given directly to my physician?

A detailed health testing report of your results will be mailed directly to you within 7-10 days  of your appointment, at which time you may take these results to your physician. Health screening results will only be mailed to your physician upon patient request and we encourage you to talk to your physician for any necessary follow-up care.

  • How do I prepare for my health screening?

Some of our health screenings, such as our Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasound, requires you to fast for four (4) hours prior to your appointment. Please continue to take all medications as prescribed by your doctor. If you are diabetic, you may still drink water within this 4-hour period. Precise fasting instructions vary depending on the combination of health screenings. Once you register, you will receive specific instructions. In order to ensure accurate results, it is important for you to follow those instructions. Also, please wear loose fitting, two-piece clothing and do not wear pantyhose.

  • Why should I have these health screenings done if I have no symptoms?

Millions of Americans are unaware they are at risk for a medical emergency or even death from vascular disorders because these diseases are generally symptomless until a catastrophic event occurs, such as stroke or aneurysm rupture. Case-in-point: half of all stroke victims had no prior symptoms. We routinely identify individuals with moderate to severe risk who are experiencing no outward symptoms. Early identification of underlying disease allows for numerous treatment options before it is too late.
